Choosing Dental Implants for a Fully-Functional and Attractive Smile

With an up-to 98% success rate, dental implants are easily a top choice for many!

Dental implants are perhaps the most practical and successful permanent solution for tooth restoration offered in dentistry today. But what makes this procedure a top choice for patients who have suffered from tooth loss?

Let’s talk about it!

First of all, what are dental implants, exactly?

Typically composed of titanium material, dental implants are screw-shaped restorations that act as artificial tooth roots. The procedure involves surgically placing the implant into the the jaw bone, to merge with the bone over time and ultimately support an artificial yet natural-looking tooth.

Together, the restoration feels and functions very similar to a natural tooth - and the result often lasts a lifetime with proper daily hygiene care!

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Patients looking to restore a missing tooth or teeth with dental implants should ideally be in good health and should have sufficient bone and healthy gums to support the implant. If there is not enough bone available, a bone grafting procedure will need to be performed prior to surgery to ensure the implant has a stable environment to fuse with.

The dental implants process explained

A patient will first need to consult with our Toronto dentist to determine whether they’re a candidate for the dental implants procedure, and if they’ll need a bone grafting treatment to start.

After any necessary preparation, the dentist will arrange a surgery date at the patient’s convenience. It’s important for the patient to know that following the surgery, the implant will typically take around 4 months to fully bond with the jaw bone before it’s officially ready to support the replacement tooth.

The procedure itself will typically take around 1-2 hours to complete - and the patient will be free to sit back and relax during their treatment, as we do everything to make their experience a comfortable one.

No one should have to suffer from the repercussions of missing teeth.

Loss of bone and change in facial structure/ appearance, difficulty with chewing and speaking, and an improper and unattractive bite are all problems that people with missing teeth experience.

The wisest step to take is to replace and restore any missing teeth as soon as they are lost… and dental implants are by far the most ideal solution!
